Cleaning and caring for your sterling silver jewelry
Sterling Silver tarnishes on prolonged exposure to air and water. Sterling Silver jewelry should be kept away from chemicals like hairspray & perfumes. Sterling Silver jewelry should be stored in Ziploc bags or cloth pouches.
Avoid storing your sterling silver jewelry directly on wood surfaces, because wood usually contains acids that can mar the finish.  Oak seems to be the worst for this.  Also, avoid storing your sterling silver with other metals, like pennies, and rubber, these too cause tarnish and damage.
Not all cleaners are recommended for soft, porous gemstones, so care must be taken to use the appropriate sterling silver polish or cleanser that will not harm your gemstones.
